Delay
started producing hip hop in 1994 using a belt drive
turntable, gemini sampler, and four-track. Throughout
his formative years, he kept that microstudio in what
was formerly his sock drawer. He moved to Richmond,
VA in 1996, where he really started amassing a quality
record collection. He spent almost every penny he had,
buying old music to sample. His beats were churned out
at the feverish pace of at least one a day. Delay never
really had any aspirations to be a dj, but as he aquired
better equipment, he learned to scratch and mix through
his productions. These skills eventually landed him
a fortunate dj and co-host spot on 90.1 FM WDCE in Richmond,
VA. The Friday evening rush hour was his audience. Still
ambitious as the day he began, he only missed 2 shows
in the 3 years he took over the boards. The radio personality
position allowed him to meet dozens of artists and industry
heads, as well as giving him the opportunity to open
up for traveling acts. Sadly, the radio station came
under new management, and Delay lost his 5-7pm slot.
After taking a hiatus from DJing, Delay continued with
production and eventually released 2 record's on a friend’s
blossoming record label, Funk Weapons. These records
were well-recieved and paved the way for Funkweapons
to a P&D with Groove Distribution, Chicago. The
international success of these releases gave this DC
native the opportunity to take up DJing once again,
and tour in Germany, Switzerland and Canada.
Now
residing in Brooklyn, NY, the ever-aspiring Delay is
still scouring his terrain for audible americana to
share with his audience. Delay's only goal as a dj is
to move the crowd without having to specialize in one
particular genre. The decade plus years of rabid record
buying have really paid off. The man's knowledge of
music, and ability to play to any audience are top-notch.
Look for many more solid releases from this talented
beat miner, and don't miss him on the turntables if
he ever comes to your part of the world.
